2024 will be the year of the Great American Eclipse. Much of
North America will see the effects of the moon passing between the Earth and
the sun. It’ll happen during the afternoon hours of April 8, 2004. The last
total solar eclipse over North America was back on August 21, 2017.
Jacksonville will only see 64% blockage of the sun. If you want to see the full solar eclipse, your best chance will be in Texas, the Midwest and through parts of the Northeast. In all the path of totality will cross through some 14 states. Residents in the center of the path could see the total eclipse for nearly 4 minutes.
If you are planning to view the eclipse, there are several
safety tips to remember:
- Do not look directly at the sun
- Do not use ordinary sunglasses or homemade
viewing glasses
