Freezing temperatures not a rarity for First Coast



When you think of winter in Florida, one generally thinks of warm weather and sunny days, but truth be told, North Florida does see its fair share of cold weather. On average, the First Coast reports 15.4 freezes are year. This amount has been declining has been declining steadily as earth’s weather continues to change. We usually see our first frost around November 20th and the first freeze around December 6.

We average around 5.2 hard freezes a year. This is when the temperature to 28 degrees or below for at least 2 hours. Around 30% of freezes will turn into hard freezes. Freeze Watch:
is issued when there is a potential for temperatures dropping to 32 degrees or less within the next 24-36 hours.
Freeze Warning:
is issued when there is a potential for significant, widespread freezing temperatures within the next 24 hours.
Hard Freeze Watch:
is issued when temperatures are expected to be 28 degrees or less for an extended period within the next 24-36 hours.
Hard Freeze Warning:
is issued when temperatures are expected to be 28 degrees or less for an extended period within the next 24 hours.
Frost Advisory: is issued
when the minimum temperature is forecast to be 32 to 36 degrees on a clear, calm night, where the temperature nears the dewpoint.
