Historical Winter Weather Events

Northeast Florida from time to time sees frozen rain, ice and even snow. The occurrence is rare- it only happens about once every 5 years. Winter weather events have occurred in five out of the twelve months (November, December, January, February & March). The heaviest snowfall officially recorded in Jacksonville was back in 1958 when 1.5 inches of snow fell at the airport. However, during the coastal winter storm of 1989 locations between Downtown and the beaches reported upwards of 3 inches of snow.
