2020 Ranks as 4th Warmest Year in Jacksonville

 

Despite the cold finish, the year 2020 ranked as the 4th warmest in Jacksonville's history. The year started off warm with an almost nonexistent winter during the early months of the year. We got some heat relief over the summer, with "cooler" than normal temperatures reported. That was followed by a mild fall and coolest December since 2010.

The average temperature in December was only 52.7 degrees, and there were 7 freezes. The average temperature in Jacksonville was 71.1 degrees- the 4th warmest since records began in 1871.

There were 91 days were the maximum temperature reached at least 90 degrees (average is 80 days).

The average dew point was 62 degrees- this was 2.3 degrees above normal, and it was the third most humid year on record.

The year's peak heat index was 112 degrees on September 3rd.
